The track runs, and if it does not run, it reports it itself. The most common condition in grown environments is the reverse: A job breaks off at night, and it only becomes noticeable when someone wonders about an empty column in the report. Traceability

The question “why is this number here?” must be answered without restarting the job. This is achieved if raw data is preserved unchanged and each transformation is based on it as a separate, versioned and testable step. This is the difference between a track that you can maintain and one that no one will ever touch.

Key figures change because business models change. A good range allows a definition to be adjusted without anyone being afraid of the side effects. Where changes are instead built alongside it, two truths emerge over time – and the more expensive one is the one nobody knows about.
